Salmonella is an important human pathogen in that it has been implicated as a major cause of food borne illness worldwide. Salmonella is responsible for 1.4 million cases of food borne illness a year. Foods contaminated with Salmonella range from poultry and eggs to various other raw meats, dairy products, fish and shrimp, sauces and salad dressings, vegetables and nuts, and processed foods such as peanut butter and chocolate.
The fact that there are so many different serovars of Salmonella and a number of different foods that have been associated with the pathogen, drives the need for a robust method that is able to detect the pathogen in a number of different foods even when present at very low levels.

Advanced immuno-detection technology that is simple to use.
The immuno-detection technology utilizes antibodies produced by SDIX and that are exclusive to the RapidChek systems. Our proprietary antibodies target LPS (lipopolysaccarhide) which is found on the surface of the pathogen. There are millions of LPS targets present on each Salmonella cell that provides the RapidChek and RapidChek SELECT systems with sensitivity comparable to DNA-based detection methods without the use of expensive equipment and extensive training.

Unique proprietary media optimizes the resuscitation and growth of Salmonella.
If your current testing method is using a media that is not very productive at resuscitating and growing Salmonella to a detectable level, no matter how sensitive your detection method may be, it will not detect the pathogen. The RapidChek Salmonella systems utilize uniquely formulated media for optimal growth of Salmonella while suppressing closely related cross-reactive and competitive bacteria.
Patented phage technology in SELECT Salmonella suppresses competing and cross-reactive bacteria.
Phage are used as an additional tool in the RapidChek SELECT Salmonella media to further enhance the specificity and sensitivity of the system. The phage are formulated by SDIX to attack problematic cross-reactive and competitive bacteria commonly found with Salmonella in food and environmental samples. The RapidChek SELECT system eliminates the problematic bacteria in the enrichment.
